William Edwin Holcomb
HOLCOMB – William Edwin Holcomb, age 82, died Tuesday, July 11 at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
Mr. Holcomb’s Grandfather, David L. Holcomb, founded the Grenada County town of Holcomb in 1901. The Holcomb family has remained in Holcomb since. Mr. Holcomb was a former Rural U.S. Mail Carrier and a Retired U.S. Coast Guard Commander. Mr. Holcomb carried mail for 40 years to families along a rural route that reached more than 100 miles around Holcomb. He was a Veteran of WWII, a member of the Retired Officers Association, a member of Veteran of Foreign Wars, and a member of Holcomb United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Mississippi State University and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Garner-Harper Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 12 from 5 – 7 p.m.
He is survived by his wife – Ruth Shaw Holcomb and two daughters – Pat Holcomb Koester and Karen Holcomb Mason both of Atlanta, Georgia.
Garner-Harper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
