Mary Stella Barry

GREENWOOD – Mary Stella Barry, age 84, died Wednesday, June 28 at Greenwood Leflore Hospital.

Mrs. Barry was born in Stewart and was a lifelong resident of Greenwood. She was a retired telephone switchboard operator, having worked the switchboard at Greenwood Leflore Hospital for 23 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30 at Williams & Lord Chapel in Greenwood at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Floyd officiating. Burial will be in Longview Cemetery in Carroll County. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Garrett Barry. She is survived by a daughter – Barbara Walter of Melbourne, FL; three sons – Thomas Richard Barry of Decatur, AL, Kenneth Andrew Barry of Greenwood, and Allen Wayne Barry of Greenwood; one sister – Eula Malone of Carrollton; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren

Billy H. Harper

Billy H. Harper, age 73, died Wednesday, June 28 at UT Bowld Medical Center in Memphis, TN.

Harper was owner and operator of Garner-Harper Funeral Home in Grenada. He was a member of First Baptist Church; Berean Sunday School Class; Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association, was past president of Mississippi Funeral Directors Association, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he served in the U.S. Navy. He also served on the Board of Directors of the American Funeral Association.

Harper graduated from Grenada High School, Gulpton-Jones Mortuary School and was in the funeral business for 53 Years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30 at First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Bro. Huey Dedmon and Dr. Clarence Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Freda B. Harper; a son, Gary D. Harper; a daughter, Marsha Harper Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota; three brothers, J. D. (Dinky) Harper, Jack E. Harper and Bobby Harper; six grandchildren, Tracy Harper of Minneapolis; Rachel Harper Wilbourn, of Grenada; Dennis H. Harper, of Grenada; Drew Smith, Corey Smith, Brad Smith, all of Minneapolis, and one great-grandchild – Austin Harper Wilbourn of Grenada. He was preceded in death by his parents – Buck Dale Harper and Laura Leigh Beckum Harper; a brother – Dale Harper; and two sisters – Betty Ruth Carpenter and Peggy Hough.

Rev. William Harvey

BATESVILLE ARK. – Rev. William Edgar Harvey formerly of Grenada, age 92, died Thursday, June 29 in Batesville, Arkansas.

Mr. Harvey was a graduate of the Ouachita Baptist University. He pastored churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 30 at The First Baptist Church in Batesville at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jim Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

He is survived by his wife – Edith Tobey Harvey; one son – Julian Harvey of Chesapeake, VA; one daughter – Barbara Kimble of Batesville; six grandchildren – Karen Kimble Melton, James T. Harvey, Teresa Singleton, Julie Harvey McMullin, John Paul Harvey and Jeanette Woolard; and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents – William Finley Harvey and Florence Dunnington Harvey; two brothers – Bryan Harvey and Charles Harvey; and two sisters – Tamara Shaw and Corine Loggains.
