GRENADA, Miss., Dec. 19, 2012 -- The Grenada County Board of Supervisors selected University of Mississippi Medical Center’s (UMMC) proposal yesterday for the long-term lease of Grenada Lake Medical Center (GLMC) in connection with Grenada County’s Request for Proposals (RFP).
“The Board is delighted to announce the selection of UMMC and looks forward to building a long-term partnership.  While the process has taken longer than expected and there still remains work to be done, we firmly believe that UMMC is a great fit for our community and will provide excellent health care services for the citizens of Grenada County and the surrounding communities for years to come,” said Grenada County Board of Supervisors President Chad Bridges.
Grenada County and UMMC will immediately begin working toward the closing of the lease transaction, which the parties expect to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2013.  The transaction will be subject to approval from the Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL).
“We’re excited by the opportunity to work more closely with the citizens of Grenada County as we assume responsibility for operating Grenada Lake Medical Center, subject to the approval of the IHL,” said Dr. James E. Keeton, UMMC vice chancellor for health affairs and dean of the School of Medicine.  “We hope to partner with hospital employees and health care providers in the area on our vision of expanding health professions training in smaller communities. Once we complete a thorough community needs assessment, we’ll work with all stakeholders on a plan that promotes the health of the population and builds upon the exemplary health care services people have grown accustomed to.  We thank the county supervisors for their confidence in us.”
“The alignment of Grenada Lake Medical Center with UMMC will be well received by the hospital family and will set the stage for the future development of our organization. Throughout the RFP process, Vice Chancellor Keeton and UMMC have demonstrated a commitment to improve the health care services offered in our community and we look forward to working with UMMC to accomplish this objective,” GLMC Chief Executive Officer C. L. "Chip" Denton said.
“It was a pleasure to hear that the Grenada County Board of Supervisors has approved the selection of UMMC to enter into a long-term lease of Grenada Lake Medical Center.  With the recent changes to health care, UMMC appears to be a good fit for our hospital staff and our community,” John Mark King, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GLMC said.
