Shining Stars:
11/30/2012

Military veterans are the shining stars on a special Christmas tree put up by the Grenada Pilot Club.
The tree, which is on display at the Elizabeth Jones Library, features star ornaments that commemorate veterans and other honorees.
“We just felt that military veterans were a common cause that we could all support and be proud of,” said club President Sue Dungan.
Each year the Pilot Club puts the tree up, partly as a fundraiser and partly as a way of injecting a little community spirit into the holidays.
“It’s a nice symbol in a place that a lot of Grenadians visit,” said Lucretia Gillon, chairperson for the project.
The ornaments are $2, and the club invites everyone to purchase one in honor of a veteran, living or deceased, in their family. A commemorative card will also be sent  to veterans. Cards, rather than ornaments, may also be purchased for $2 for other honorees and will be mailed.
The ladies of the Pilot Club call their project, “Light Up A Life,” and they’ve been doing it for more than 20 years.
