One More Time
A Comment by Joe Lee III

One had only to watch the Presidential press conference last week to observe that we have passed through the threshold to an extremely contentious political era that will change America forever.
We are completing a cycle begun by Franklin Roosevelt and revived by Lyndon Johnson. This is the transformation of the American free-enterprise system, with a vision of government working for the people, to European socialism in which the people work for the government. Of course, working for the government actually means working to insure the politicians in power stay in power.
The permutation will not be pretty and will not be pleasant, but at least it is preferable to what happened when the Bolsheviks took over Russia in 1917, leaving between five and 10 million
dead bodies.

Romney correct
Unsuccessful presidential candidate Mitt Romney was severely criticized for saying that part of the reason he lost was because the Obama Administration made promises of gifts to certain segments of the population and then made sure those people voted.
   Of course Romney was right.
For example, the White House told illegal residents they could stay here, but if the other guy got elected, they’d be deported. Then the Democrats made sure their legal relatives and friends got to the polls.
Same approach for those with student loans, disability payments, welfare, and even Social Security.
Romney’s observation was correct, but the main reason for Obama’s re-election was constant campaigning on his behalf by the national press.

Hopeless situation
None of this political analysis really matters. None of the jabber you see on television amounts to anything significant.
   The die is cast.
More than half of the population has discovered they can vote themselves more money and more benefits from the government.
They will continue to do this. The politicians will continue to accommodate these voters with more sugar and honey because they want to keep their jobs.
No one of significant authority cares about where the money is coming from or about the future economic health of the country.

Road to nowhere
Remember the famous Alaskan “bridge to nowhere” of the 2008 campaign?
It was touted as a prime example of government waste.
If you would like to see another example of such waste, all you have to do is get on Highway 51 and ride north across the Yalobusha River.
There you will see millions of dollars being spent that poor Chinese people worked hard for in order to loan it to America.
