There will be no special election, school officials say, as the Grenada County School District mourns the death of a board member.
James Hughes, a 23-year veteran of the school board, died on Nov. 2.
Hughes’s colleagues remembered him as a servant and as a strong champion of public education.
“His entire focus was on serving the children of the Grenada School District,” said Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault. “I called him ‘the thinker’ after Rodin’s statue, because he was such a studious man, and he evaluated everything so thoroughly,” said Daigneault.
