Grenada County Civil Defense Director George Frazier said today that Grenada County was fortunate not to have been hit by a tornado this weekend. "We dodged yet another bullet," said Frazier.
This weekend tornadoes threatened the bordering counties of Grenada. Carroll, Yalobusha, LeFlore, Tallahatchie, Webster and Calhoun.
Frazier said the National Weather Service did issue a warning for Grenada County and a number of people called and claimed they heard or saw a tornado, but no damage was reported.
"The weather service in Jackson will begin to follow storm in their projected paths instead of the radar."
Frazier said this is the latest technology that will allow his team to blow sirens in particular areas where the weather is most severe instead of blowing them all at the same time.
Grenada County, which is 39 miles wide, was threatened by a tornado near the Gore Springs area.
