Starting a business can be complicated, but finding helpful solutions could be a bit easier.
Due to the efforts of the Unity Committee of the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses, a conference has been created to help foster developing and existing businesses.

The North Central Mississippi Minority and Women's Business Conference will be held September 30 at the Holmes Community College Corey Forum.

The conference will provide a variety of sessions that will address topics such as:

  • sources of funding,
  • state certification,
  • bonding for contractors,
  • contract procurement,
  • business plans,
  • legal aspects use of local resources.
The event will also have of number of speakers that are knowledgeable of the business world.

Opportunity

"This conference is an opportunity for Grenada to bring some fantastic speakers who can really be a great help to women and minorities who are interested in either starting a small business or expanding a small business that is already in existence," said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Philip Heard.

Each session of the conference will provide insight to opportunities and support that's available to those getting their business off the ground.

Conference Chairperson Minnie Travis said the event will be a service to the community.

"This conference will provide valuable information free of charge," said Travis. "This conference was designed to provide professional business advice to those who have existing businesses or for those who want to start a business. It gives women and minorities the opportunity to come together in one location to gain information from a wide range of individuals who have a great deal of business expertise."

Although the event is scheduled to end at 2:45 p.m. attendees don't have to be present for each session says Travis.

The conference is offered by the Grenada Chamber of Commerce, chaired by the Unity Committee, and assisted by Chamber Ambassadors and Phi Theta Kappa, Alpha Mu Beta of Holmes Community College.

Regular registration begins at 7:30 a.m. on September 30 at Holmes Community College Corey Forum. If individuals pre-register by September 23 their name will be entered into a drawing for a door prize. Also free lunch and snacks will be provided for the event.
