Minority Business Conference
There will be a meeting of the Chamber's Minority and Women-Owned Business Conference Committee on Wednesday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m. at the Chamber office.
The Conference this year is set for September 22 and will be held at the Holmes Community College Forum.
All members of this Committee are urged to come help us with this great project. See you Wednesday morning!
Educators of the Year
At the Chamber's recent Student Awards Luncheon teachers at each of Grenada's schools were recognized and honored as Educators of the Year.
Receiving this honor were: Diann Parker, Kirk Academy High School; Linda Darby, Kirk Academy Elementary School; Paulette Oakes, Grenada Elementary School; Janice Godbold, Grenada Upper Elementary School; Sandra Holland, Grenada Middle School; Dorothy Watson, Grenada High School; Paul Lee, Grenada Vocational School; and Reverend Jack Smith, Tie Plant School.
Congratulations to you all and thank you from the Chamber for all the wonderful work you do with Grenada's young people.
Grenada Wholesale Lumber
Welcome to new Chamber member Grenada Wholesale Lumber! Wesley Thomas is the commander of this terrific building supply business, and he has anything in the way of lumber that you could possibly need. Wesley also has lots of other great things at his store - electrical supplies, millwork, paint, plumbing supplies, roofing materials, and hardware supplies. He can even deliver all this to you at your site! Give Wesley a call at 227-1779 and then go by and see him at 380 West Govan Street.
Stewarts Sports and More
Rusty and Joan Stewart at Stewart's Sports and More are also new Chamber members. Rusty has everything in the way of sporting needs that you can imagine, as well as having plaques and trophies for that awards presentation after you learn how to use all those great clothes and equipment! They carry Russell athletic wear, shorts, t-shirts, every sort of exercise shoe imaginable, tennis gear, baseball gear - if you can name it, Rusty will have it or can get it. Go by the store on Monroe Street, the south portion of Green Shopping Center, or give Joan and Rusty a call at 226-4747.
Spencer's Dairy Kream
Bob White's Spencers Dairy Kream is one of our newest members, also. If you have never been to Spencer's and had a hamburger and fries, chased with a large cone of vanilla, then what in the world are you waiting for? The first bite of that great Spencer's ice cream will make you think you have died and gone to Heaven. Bob is doing a great job with one of Grenada's institutions. He bought the place with intentions of doing extensive renovations, but has been talked out of it by all the Grenada purists who insist that it remain the landmark that it has always been. Next time you're by there, go inside and read all the newspapers on the wall. Great nostalgia! Call Bob at 226-9884 or stop by and get food at 279 Sunset Drive. And say, as long as you're there, order me a burger, fries and cone, too!
