The employee of a Grenada liquor store is dead, but police aren’t speculating about the cause of death.
According to Interim Police Chief Russell Carver, a man he identified as James Edward Simmons, 71, was found dead in Mac’s Package Store, on Hwy. 8 East, Thursday night.
Carver said that officers responded to a call at 9:24 p.m., but he wouldn’t say who placed the call. When officers arrived they found Simmons dead, lying on his back, in a store room behind the counter.
According to Carver no money was taken from the cash drawer and no merchandise appeared to be missing from the store. The store is owned by Roger McKnight, officials said.
Carver said that Simmons’s body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
