Preliminary evidence supports that the shooting death of Grenada man was a suicide, but police are continuing to investigate the case as though it were a homicide, according to officials.
A man police identified as Charles Smith, 28, was found dead in a house on Middle Rd., in east Grenada around noon on Wednesday.
Smith died from a gunshot wound to the chest, detectives said Friday.
Grenada PD answered a call for shots fired, according to Det. Lt. George Douglas, and shortly after they arrived officials from the Grenada County Coroner’s Office pronounced Smith dead.
Douglas said Friday that the call came from a woman he identified as Smith’s 25-year-old girlfriend, whom he said was the only other person in the house at the time of the shooting.
