Betty Bowen Branscome
Betty Bowen Branscome, 86, of Grenada, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at
her home. Mrs. Branscome was born on July 21, 1926, in Grenada to
Hattie Searcy and John Willie Bowen. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Grenada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J.D. Branscome
Sr.; a daughter, Dianne Branscome Wimberley; three sisters, Bennie
Bowen Hemphill, Ouida Isabell Bowen and Mary Lee Bowen; two brothers,
James Bowen and Jeff Bowen.
She is survived by a son, Joel Branscome of Grenada; two sisters,
Faye Bowen James of Montgomery, Ala., and Christine Bowen Hales of
Vicksburg; two brothers, Johnny Bowen of Vicksburg and Harold Ray Bowen
of Greenwood.
Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at
Garner-Harper Funeral Home. Services were at 2 p.m, at Garner-Harper
Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in
Grenada.
Garner-Harper Funeral Home was in charge.
Charles Lewis Leflore
Charles Lewis Leflore, 84, of Greenwood, died Saturday, Aug. 25,
2012, at Mississippi State Veterans Nursing Home in Kosciusko.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 28, from noon until the time of the
service at 2 p.m. at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery in North Carrollton.
Mr. Leflore was born on Sept. 5, 1927, to Margaret McMillan and
Charles Stanford Leflore of Valley Hill. He was an honor graduate and
president of the Class of 1945 at Greenwood High School. He joined the
Navy near the end of WW II. Mr. Leflore attended Mississippi State
College and graduated in 1949. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity
and voted Alumnus of the Year from Grenada County. He was a supporter of
the Bulldogs for many years.
On Oct. 14, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart Sarah Smith. They would be married 63 years on Oct. 14, 2012.
Following college, he was employed for 21 years by Universal C.I.T.
Financial Corporation in Gulfport. He was then hired by Sunburst Bank of
Grenada, where they moved and remained until his retirement in
1991.While with Sunburst Bank he was vice president in charge of
installment loans until his retirement.
Charles was an avid rabbit hunter and fisherman and “Bulldog Supporter.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, John Stanford Wall.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Smith Leflore of Grenada; his
daughter, Sarah Lynne Leflore Trammel of Nettleton, Miss.; his sons,
Charles Stanford Leflore II and his wife, Jan, and Michael Albert
Leflore of Grenada; a brother, Billy Leflore and his wife, Josephine, of
Greenwood.
Mr. Leflore is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Owen
Leflore of San Francisco, Katherine Paige Leflore Neal, Madison Charles
Stanford Leflore III, Madison Jonathon Adam Leflore, all of Greenwood,
Hannah Lise Leflore, Sarah Elizabeth Leflore, Ann Eden Leflore, all of
Greenwood, and Bradley Trussel of El Paso, Texas.
