Five candidates are slated to be interviewed next week for the position of chief of the Grenada Police Department.
According to Interim City Manager Charles “JoJo” Weathers, three of the candidates are locals and two are from neighboring counties.
Weathers intended to begin interviewing candidates two weeks ago, but postponed matters because of a death in his family.
According to Weathers, the three local men are members of the Grenada Police Department, among them 28-year veteran and current interim chief, Russell Carver.
Carver was appointed to the interim role on July 3, after Chief James Fox retired.
Weathers said Thursday that one of the candidates is from Columbus and the other is from DeSoto County.
“The one from Columbus will be interviewed Monday afternoon,” Weathers said.
