The Grenada High School Chargers again face one of the toughest schedules in the state this football season. Coming off a 4-7 worksheet in 2011, Coach Ashley Kuhn’s group will square off against six playoffs playoff teams in 2012.
“Without question, we feel like we have one of the toughest schedules in the state,” Kuhn said. “We will line up each and every Friday night with a quality opponent.”
To give you an idea of just how tough the schedule is in 2012, the combined records of the Chargers’ 11 opponents is 83-54. They will face six playoff opponents including two defending state champions. It would have been seven playoff teams, but Columbus missed the postseason despite a 7-4. The Falcons also play in Region 1-6A.
Grenada will once again compete in Region 1-6A. Last year’s state champion, Olive Branch, is a member of the division. The Conquistadors finished with a 15-0 mark last season. Grenada travels to Olive Branch Oct. 19.
You also have perennial power South Panola in the region. The Tigers slipped by their standards to a 9-4 worksheet last season. They return the majority of their players and are poised to make a run this season at the title. Grenada will host Lance Pogue’s squad Oct. 26.
