When the family of a Grenada native son and soon to be U.S. Olympian hold a reunion in town this this weekend, they’ll have plenty to celebrate.
Relatives of Aries Merritt will gather at the Comfort Inn Suites tonight to share family memories and get ready to cheer on their favorite athlete later this summer.
Merritt, who turns 27 this month, is the reigning world indoor champion in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Grenada native secured his place on the 2012 U.S. Olympic squad last week by posting a world-leading time of 12.93 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles at the Olympic trials in Oregon.
Merritt lives and trains in Texas, but as a boy he attended Carrie Dotson Elementary School and lived in a house at 121 Lynch Street. He was baptized at Belle Flower Missionary Baptist Church.
His mother is Grenada native Linda Hubbard.
