City of Grenada finances have caught the attention of state officials, several sources have confirmed.
Mayor Billy Collins was among those who confirmed that investigators from the office of State Auditor Stacey Pickering have been to city hall.
“I spent about 45 minutes with them last Friday,” Collins said. “I welcomed them to our city and offered our cooperation in whatever they needed.”
According to Collins, the auditors were checking on complaints that had been filed.
“There has been so much conversation in our city about finances,” Collins said. “I am glad to have them check our records and make recommendations so everyone can feel good about our city, and we can move forward together.  We have a great city, and I want to see jobs created during the next four years.”
Pickering’s spokesman, Lisa Shoemaker, would not comment on the Grenada work.
“Unfortunately, I cannot comment on an ongoing investigation. This is standard for us as to not jeopardize our investigations,” Shoemaker said.
