J. H. Baker
   Funeral services for J. H. “Ham” Baker, 76, of Water Valley were at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
   Mr. Baker died Sept. 22, 2011, at his home.
   He was born in Water Valley on Oct. 19, 1934, to the late John Henry and Mary True Baker.  
   Mr. Baker worked a number of years in the newspaper printing business and retired as an employee of the City of Water Valley. He was an avid fisherman, gardener and a great storyteller.
   Surviving Mr. Baker are two daughters, Stephanie Stewart and Wendy Hodge of Water Valley; a son, John Stephen Baker of Oxford; a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Willie Thomas Gentry

   Funeral services for Willie Thomas “Billy” Gentry, 80, of Charleston, were at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, at Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
   Mr. Gentry died Sept. 23, 2011, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
He was born in Charleston on March 31, 1931, to the late Willie Levi Gentry and Lucy S. Shelley Gentry.
   Mr. Gentry was a coil assembler for McQuay/Heatcraft and a member of Adams Arbor Church of God of Prophecy.
   In addition to his parents, preceding Mr. Gentry in death is his son Willie Lane Gentry.
   Surviving Mr. Gentry are his wife, Evelyn H. Clolinger Gentry of Charleston; two daughters, Teresa Ashley of Tupelo and Lucy Lenise Gentry of Charleston; five sisters, Mary Byars, Cora Taylor, Lois Newton, Alice Clolinger, all of Charleston and Emma Brown of Holcomb; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
   Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38l05.
   Womble Funeral Home was in charge.

Melissa Ann Russell
   Funeral services for Melissa Ann Russell, 44, of Water Valley, are at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Shady Grove Methodist Church.
   Mrs. Russell died Sept. 21, 2011, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.
She was born in Oxford on Jan. 27, 1967, to Ginger Morris of Water Valley and the late Roland Wayne Edwards.
   Mrs. Russell was employed as a registered nurse at Grenada Lake Medical Center and was a volunteer first responder with the O’Tuckolofa Fire Department. She was a member of  First Baptist Church of Water Valley, a member of a medical team  mission to Nicaragua, and she was the valedictorian of Water Valley High School Class of 1984. She also enjoyed reading, camping and fishing.
   In addition to her mother, surviving Mrs. Russell are her husband, Jason Russell of Water Valley; a daughter, Caitlyn Watts of Water Valley; a son, Dustin Watts of Water Valley; a sister, Jennifer Nall of Ash Flat, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lee Shelton
   Lee Shelton, 64, of Tupelo, died Aug. 16, 2011, at his residence. A private service will be held at a later date. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Faith Mausoleum.
   He was born on May 20, 1947, to Jesse Lee and Nancy Shelton. Mr. Shelton was an Army Vietnam War and was a retired Bell South employee.
   Surviving Mr. Shelton are his sister, Donna Traugott and her husband Tim of Grenada; nephew, Allan Traugott and his wife Dawn of Grenada and great-niece, Bailey Traugott of Grenada.

Joseph B. Tilghman

   Joseph B. “Joe” Tilghman, 82, of Weatherford, Texas, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at his home. Visitation was held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at National Funeral Home. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at National Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Paul Cemetery in Tallahatchie County.
   Joe was born in Grenada on July 16, 1929, to Horace James Tilghman and Fanny Lou Mullen Tilghman. He was retired from the U.S. Navy.
   Mr. Tilghman was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Fanny Tilghman, and by his wife, Priscilla Tilghman.   
   Survivors include two daughters, Frances Acock and her husband, Allen, and Barbara Owen and her husband, Steve; one son, Charles “Chuck” Tilghman and his wife, Tammy; one brother, Clarence Tilghman and his wife, Teresa; one sister, Brenda Mullen and her husband, Keith; grandchildren, Dennis Gates, Heather and Nic Robran, Misty Warrick, Jamie Burkes, Joseph Almonza, Matt Owen and Shannan Longhurst, Robert Joseph “Bobby” Owen and Jennifer Hall; and great-grandchildren, Kaleb Owen, Kammeron Owen, Brody Longhurst, Kallie, Clare and Shelby Steele.
   National Funeral Home was in charge.
