The Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce recently hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Girl Scouts Heart of the South at their new facilities.
The new Girl Scout office is located on Sunset Drive west of Interstate 55.
“We are honored to have a local Girl Scouts office here in Grenada, and we hope to develop a close relationship with them as time goes by,” said Gwen Woods, community development director for the chamber.
According to Angela Woods, chief executive officer, Girls Scouts Heart of the South is a premier, well-rounded organization that serves 14,000 girls in 59 counties through Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas.
“The Girl Scouts now have offices in Grenada, Jackson, Memphis and Tupelo that serve 18 counties in Northwest Mississippi and 19 counties in Northeast Mississippi,” she said.
According to Jenny Jones, director of community relations of Girl Scouts Heart of the South, the office was moved from Greenwood.
“We moved operations from Greenwood to Grenada because it just seemed to fit better,” she said. “Grenada is an up and coming area that has a close location to Interstate 55.”
Jones said with the new location, she hopes more girls will have better access to girl scouting.
“We hope the community will see these girls, and know that they are there to volunteer and help with community projects such as beautifying a park or feeding the eldery,” she said. “These girls are girls who give back to the community.”
