I do think that people need to be punished for their crimes!!! But here is the catch throwing drug abusers in jail does them ABSOLUTELY no good... If you want to put them in jail that is fine but along with their sentence it should be mandatory that they get some help and they should go straight in to a rehab somewhere... I have witnessed this first hand because I have a sibling that is a drug abuser.. They have a disease a TRUE disease.. THEY NEED HELP.. Now what I dont agree with is if they go to jail once and are court ordered to get help and they do it them come back out and start getting in more trouble then just lock them up...You can not help someone who does not want to be helped..Drugs are becoming out of control everywhere... There is no solution to the problem, although I wish there was.. So that is my 2 cents on the situation...:)

TRY THINKING OF IT THIS WAY: WHAT IF THAT GUY DOING MARY JANE WAS OUT THERE SELLING IT TO YOUR CHILD?! WHAT IF HE TRIED MAKING YOUR CHILD SMOKE IT?! BETTER YET WHAT IF ONE HAD BEEN SMOKING AND GOTTEN HIGH AND THAT WAS YOUR CHILD THAT WAS A VICTIM OF CHILD PORN?? YOU WOULDNT BE A VERY HAPPY PARENT. PPL IN GRENADA SHOULD DEF THINK BEFORE THEY SPEAK!

Unless I misread, there is only ONE person charged with marijuana by itself. That person is not going to jail. They got 3 years with 3 years suspended, so that does mean no jail time, right? The others are coke, meth or a combination. If I am not mistaken, the law on pot now is anything less than an ounce you just get a ticket. Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but at least some of these people have made repeated "mistakes." When do you stop looking at it as a mistake and realize that these people have not learned their lesson? Maybe jail will keep them from making the same mistake over and over again. I do think that pot is much less dangerous than alcohol; but meth, coke and heroin are MUCH more dangerous.

There are enough people in the state prisons right now that the taxpayers are paying for. I just dont understand why the courts cant see that these people need counseling so they can begin to understand their problems, but instead the justice system puts them in prison. Marijuania is a joke. Dont even know why it is called a drug. Beer is much worse than pot!! Get real people. People make mistakes, and no one is perfect. Not even those who work in the court systems.

JWC- which crimes does not deserve punishment? Manufacturing of meth, child porn, embezzlement, assault on an officer? While I agree with you about the mj, there are several serious crimes listed above that deserve serious punishment
