Fans of Grenada High School baseball can get a first hand look at the 2010 Charger Baseball team Monday evening. The program will have its annual First Pitch Banquet at the school cafeteria. Mississippi State assistant baseball coach Lane Burroughs is the featured speaker for the event which begins at 6 p.m. Bar be que plates will be served for $10 per plate. Tickets are available for baseball players or any Diamond Club member. Carry out plates will be available. Door prizes will be given away. Burroughs in his second season on Coach John Cohen’s staff at Mississippi State. He joined in the MSU staff in June 2008 after having served as an assistant coach at Kansas State. He earlier served on Cohen’s staff at Northwestern (La.) State in 1997 and1998. The native of Meridian is in his 15th season as a coach. Burroughs has played at the high school, junior college, and senior college level in Mississippi. He has coach in the state having served nine seasons at the University of Southern Mississippi. At Southern Miss., he served as recruiting coordinator, infield coach, and handled duties in the third base coaching box. He coached seven All-Americans, nine freshman All-Americans, 10 position players that went in to sign professional baseball contracts. Of those, five of them went in the top 10 rounds of the draft. Grenada opens the season with a home jamboree against Winona Feb. 20. The following week, they host Horn Lake in a doubleheader.
