It was a game that turned out to be a great preparation tool for the postseason. The Kirk Raiderettes trailed Oak Hill by five points in the final period during Senior Night Monday. Kirk managed to tie the game late and force overtime. In the extra period, Kirk was able to get the lead. They held on down the stretch for a 44-43 victory. With the win, the Raiderettes improve to 26-2. “It certainly wasn’t the way that we wanted the game to unfold,” coach Mike Reans said. “However, it was the type of game that we needed as we head into postseason.” In the boy’s contest, Kirk dropped a 54-39 decision. Girls Trailing by five, Beth Mann had a three-point play to cut the deficit to two points. Courtney Parella scored the game-tying bucket in the closing moments. The Raiderettes had a final shot in regulation, but couldn’t convert. In overtime, Holly Wells put Kirk ahead to stay with a three-pointer a 43-40. Oak Hill was able to get within 44-43 and had a final opportunity, but didn’t get a shot before the buzzer sounded. “It was a good win for our girls as we head into the district tournament,” Reans said. “It was also good on Senior Night for our seniors to go out on top.” Parella paced Kirk with 16 points. Mann and Carmen Woods both had seven points. Wells finished with five points. Allye Lundy chipped in four points and Katie Lee Jones had three points. Marah Evans round out the scoring with two points. Boys Scott Graham led KA with 12 points in a losing effort. Sam Denley finished with seven points. Kris Harbin and Reid Walker each had six points. James Henderson chipped in four points. Shane Provine and Will Thimmes each had two points.
