The new lights are Westminister style.

Installation of new street lights, which started in December along the Downtown Square, Main Street and South Street, was completed last week.
Jim Lyles, customer services representative for Entergy, said the original Traditionnaire-styled lamps were installed in the 1990s.
“The lamps were put in and maintained, but they did not have a lot of output as far as light,” he said.
In December, the city decided to have the lights replaced because several were burned out and a few that had wiring issues, according to Lyles.
“Due to a 2005 Energy Bill, the United States Department of Energy made the Traditonnaire style obsolete,” he said. “We went to the manufacturer to see if they had a similar style.”
The new lights are a Westminster style, said Lyles.
“The new lights have a greater output, and the monthly cost is a little cheaper,” he said.
A total of 20 new lights were installed.
“The monthly charge for the new lights is approximately $20 versus the old lights at $23,” he said. “The city could see a savings of about $60 per month.”
Sonny Ammons, code compliance officer, said the installation of the new lights was done at no cost to the city.
“We saved money,” he said. “And the new lights are more energy efficient and the safety aspect is better.”
He said the city wanted things to look nice, but wanted drivers to be able to see pedestrians better as well.

I am sure that the new lights do look "nice" and will continue to look "nice" until they are busted out by the druggies because they are shedding too much light on their drug deals. Or the bulbs blow and are never replaced like half the other street lights in Grenada. Maintain them? Yea right. Take a trip down Lakeview/Sunset any night and count the street lights that are out, especially at the intersections. Deadly accidents waiting to happen. Yea Grenada has it's priorities straight. The way life should be....

The new street lights look totally awesome, but... they are not as cost effective compared to solar street lights. To conclude, let’s just sum up the benefits of solar street lights in comparison with their outdated equivalents: 1) The day to day running and maintenance costs are slashed 2) There is a positive environmental impact as opposed to a negative one 3) The lack of wiring to be installed minimizes the disruption caused to, for example, road users during installation 4) Power outages have no impact whatsoever on street lighting in the area 5) Solar street lights can be easily erected in almost all locations In the long run, this would mean substantial savings for the city. As it stands, this clearly shows that the city is not looking for environmentally and cost conscious solutions.

I saw these lights first hand on College Blvd. and they look really nice. It really lights up the crack dealers on that corner. To bad the city cant do something about them. I guess that might cost the taxpayers.

At no cost to the city? Give me a break! Nothing is free and our tax dollars somewhere along the line paid for this. We are in the middle of an economic meltdown, jobs are leaving Grenada at an alarming pace and this is the city's idea of improvement? I encourage everyone to get out and vote next elections.
