GOODMAN -- Former Itawamba Community College President, Dr. David C. Cole, has been named interim president at Holmes Community College by the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Glenn F. Boyce told the Holmes Community College Board of Trustees Friday that he would be stepping down June 30.
Dr. Cole, who served as Itawamba Community College’s President for 20 years, will take over at Holmes on July 1 after current Holmes President Dr. Glenn F. Boyce begins his new position with the Institutions of Higher Learning as its Associate Commissioner for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Cole holds three degrees from the University of Mississippi, including a bachelor’s in education, a master’s in educational administration and a doctorate in educational leadership.
Prior to coming to Itawamba as president in 1993, he served as Superintendent of the South Panola School District from 1974 to 1992 and was Assistant Superintendent and Federal Projects Director for the district from 1972 to 1974. “I’m honored to serve in this interim role while the board at Holmes is searching for the next president,” said Cole.
“I have known Dr. Cole for many years and have worked closely with him inside the MACJC,” Dr. Boyce said. “We are fortunate to have someone of his qualifications and experience to take us through this interim period.”
Dr. Boyce said he is looking forward to his new role in education.
“I’m honored to be given that opportunity,” Boyce said. “It would have taken an opportunity of this stature to move me away from Holmes. This is a special place with outstanding people that truly care about students first.”
Under his leadership, Holmes has reached the highest enrollment in school history and been recognized nationally as one of the nation’s highest achieving community colleges by the Aspen Institute.
Since Boyce became president in 2005, Holmes has achieved a record number of graduates and was one of the leading institutions in the community college system in the percentage of increased graduates for several years. The college has significantly expanded teaching locations and opened numerous new academic and career/technical programs in its service area.
Boyce is also proud of the three World Championships won by Holmes’ Phi Theta Kappa Chapters. He was also instrumental in starting the President’s Leadership Institute.
