There will be plenty of home football action for fans of Grenada High School.
GHS, coming off a 9-3 mark in 2013 and Class 6A Playoff performance, will host seven games at Charger Stadium this fall.
“It’s a schedule that set up this season after having just four home games last season,” Coach Ashley Kuhn said. “There are some good teams that our fans will get to see particularly inside the region.”
The home marquee game on the slate would have to be against South Panola Oct. 31. Grenada battled the Tigers to a 0-0 first half tie a season ago before losing 22-0 in Batesville. The Chargers also face 6A runner up Tupelo at Charger Stadium.
“Our region schedule is set,” Kuhn said. “Last year, we had three home games in region play. This year, we will have four.”
The Chargers open the season Aug. 22 with a trip to Class 5A powerhouse West Point. Kuhn elected to play the Green Wave as a 12th game and not have an open date before Greenwood.
“We saw the difference of not playing a game before Greenwood,” Kuhn said. “West Point had the same open date so we agreed to play. It will be a stiff challenge for our team, but we need that to get ready for region play.”
Grenada opens the home schedule Aug. 29 against Class 5A member Greenwood. The Greenville-Weston Hornets come to town for the first weekend in September.
The fourth week of the season sees a trip to Attala County to play Kosciusko.
