The Grenada County Board of Supervisors on Monday voted unanimously to increase Sheriff Alton Strider’s pay in accordance with a new state law.
Strider, along with other sheriffs throughout the state, will get his first pay raise in several years.
Gov. Phil Bryant signed the measure, House Bill 1409, last month.
The bill passed the House 120-1 on Feb. 11 and the Senate 48-3 on March 11.
Starting in July, Strider’s base pay will increase from $60,000 to $80,000.
The increase is based on the county’s population.
