With the conclusion of the 2013-14 school year, both the Kirk Raiders and Grenada Chargers turn their attention to offseason workouts in preparation for the 2014 football season.
“It’s an important time for our football team,” GHS Coach Ashley Kuhn said. “We use this time to work on our strength and conditioning.”
At Kirk, second-year coach John McCrory also knows how vital weight training is to his Raiders. Last season, Kirk finished 2-8 and the lack of a weight program was evident.
“We’ve made progress in the weight room this spring,” McCrory said. “I see our guys getting stronger and we will be able to take that on to the field. The summer is vital to the success of any football team.”
McCrory finished spring practice with 32 players in grades 9-12. The Raiders will lift three days a week and take part in 7-on-7 drills on Wednesday. Currently, Kirk has games scheduled with Winona HS and Eupora HS. McCrory is working to add more games to their schedule this summer.
Kirk begins fall practice July 31. The Raiders open the season Aug. 23 with a trip to Holly Springs to face Marshall Academy.
