The Grenada City Council voted unanimously to allow a local restaurateur to apply for a startup grant and to accept a high bid on confiscated weapons.
Crystal’s diner, a staple of downtown dining, closed last month and an undisclosed restaurateur wants to revive the space.
“We’re asking for a Rural Business Enterprise Grant not exceeding $41,000,” said Karen Simms, with Fortitude and Logistics Solutions LLC., the company that is helping write the grant.
RBEG grants are federal grants that help small businesses get started.
Simms recommended that the restaurateur give at least a 100 percent match to show good faith and seriousness about starting the business.
Simms referred to the match as “sweat equity.”
“This will not cost the city anything,” said Simms.
