Grenada County sheriff’s deputies and the Grenada County Task Force seized a big load of what they say appears to be marijuana along with 24 firearms Tuesday from a house on Nelia Road.
According to Administrative and Personnel Officer Eric Williamson, a man he identified as John R. Smith, 69, of Grenada, is being held at the Grenada County Jail after deputies found loads of plants and weapons in his west Grenada County home.
Deputies have to send samples of the plants to the state crime lab in Jackson to confirm that the plants are, in fact, marijuana. If so, they will be weighed and an estimated street value assessed.
Smith’s bond had not been  set as of early Thursday, because he had not appeared in court.
Law enforcement has 48 hours to officially charge Smith, and deputies were still gathering evidence Thursday, Williamson said.
