A preliminary investigation reveals that only one shot was fired at the scene in a house on Govan Street where a Grenada man was killed Friday in what police said they are investigating as a homicide.
According to Capt. George Douglas, a man he identified as Izzic Terrell Townes, 43, apparently died of a gunshot wound he suffered while a dice game was taking place in a house on the 600 block of Govan Street.
Police received the call shortly before 3 a.m., Douglas said.
Douglas was guarded in his comments Monday.
The captain would not say how police determined that only one shot was fired.
For example, he would  not say if a shell casing was recovered,
and he would not say how many times Townes was hit, or what caliber gun was fired.
“That information will be forthcoming as our investigation continues,” said Douglas.
Although GPD officers had no suspects Friday, Douglas would neither confirm nor deny that Monday, citing the sensitive nature of the investigation.
