Marty Stuart

Staff Report

Five time Grammy-winner and Mississippi native Marty Stuart will be in concert Saturday night at seven o’clock at the Holmes Community College Corey Forum.
The event is sponsored by the Grenada Arts Partnership (GAP), Grenada and Holmes Partner for the Arts.
Advance tickets are $15, and tickets bought at the door are $20. Tickets may be purchased at the HCC business office on the Grenada campus.
“The Grenada Arts Partnership is glad to help bring an entertainer of this caliber to our town,” said Martha Cofer, HCC Grenada academic dean and GAP board member. “We appreciate the support of our sponsors. They make it possible to have events like this in Grenada.”
Ticket sales have been brisk, according to Cofer.
“We’ve actually sold tickets to people in three different states,” she said.
Except when he’s performing, Stuart, a native of Philadelphia, Miss., wears a lot of different hats. He’s a platinum recording artist, Grand Ole Opry star, country music archivist, Southern culture historian, photographer, musician, songwriter and TV show host.
Since starting out singing gospel as a child, Stuart, 54, has spent over four decades celebrating American roots music with a missionary’s zeal. His teenage years on tour with bluegrass legend Lester Flatt in the 1970s were followed by six years in Johnny Cash’s band during the 1980s and a chart-topping tenure as a solo artist in the 1990s.
Stuart is supported by his backing band, The Fabulous Superlatives: guitarist Kenny Vaughan, drummer Harry Stinson and bassist Paul Martin.
Stuart’s zest for every conceivable flavor of country music is also seen regularly by TV viewers these days, on RFD-TV’s “The Marty Stuart Show”, a musical variety show and the number one program on the network.
Doors will open at 6:30. Contact the HCC business office at 227-2302.
