Long-time Grenada Recreation Director Richard Ellis has announced that he’ll step down at the end of this month.
Ellis announced his decision at the Monday city council meeting.
Ellis began his career with the city 33 years ago as a police officer. He took the job as recreation director in 1984.
“My favorite part of my job was meeting people,” said Ellis. “It takes a people person to do this job, and the children always came first. It was most important to me to make sure the children were taken care of.”
Mayor Billy Collins spoke highly of Ellis.
“He’s been a dedicated and loyal employee,” said Collins. “Everybody you meet speaks well of him and we wish him the best in his retirement.”
City Manager Charles Weathers had no comment as to who would replace Ellis.
