Pit bulldogs attacked one woman and
menaced a mail carrier in Grenada recently, and the police chief wants dog
owners to know that the department is serious about handing out fines and
enforcing the city¹s ordinance.
"I would discourage anyone from owning these
dogs, because they¹re naturally aggressive and pose a real safety risk to
society," said Police Chief Ben Williams.
Two dogs brought a woman to the
ground on Long Street as she was checking her mail.
According to a police
report, the 43-year-old woman was walking to her mailbox shortly after noon
on Jan. 12, when she was attacked by two dogs that her neighbor let
The dogs badly bit the woman¹s left ankle, the report said, and she
went to the emergency room at The University of Mississippi Medical Center
The incident is still under investigation, the report said.
separate incident, a mail carrier was cornered on a porch by an aggressive
pit bull on College Boulevard, and police had to put the dog down.
