Taking the first step in founding a campus police department and acknowledging improvements in energy savings and drop-out prevention topped the agenda at the Grenada School Board meeting on Tuesday.
Director of Security and Transportation Benji Britt asked the board for permission to begin the application process to establish an official campus police department.
“Numerous advantages are available if we meet the qualifications,” said Britt.
Among those advantages are decreased adverse liability, Britt said.
Establishing a department will add another layer of credibility, and will demonstrate that Grenada’s security personnel are conforming to the highest standards of training and accountability, Britt said.
“It will allow us to carry the commission of a certified officer,” said Britt. The organization that recognizes that commission is POST, or the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
