A former Grenada police officer and chief of police in Vaiden pleaded guilty to arson in Grenada County Circuit Court last week, according to court records.
Patrolman Allen Vance, who was charged with third degree arson, entered his guilty plea and received three years probation, records said.
The guilty plea stemmed from Vance’s arrest in February after the state fire marshal conducted an investigation of a burned vehicle in Grenada on Feb. 10.
Vance, 47, resigned from the chief’s position in June after serving as the town’s leading law officer since 2010.
He also resigned from the Grenada Police Department, according to Chief Ben Williams, although Williams, who was out of town, couldn’t give an exact date of Vance’s resignation.
Former Grenada Chief Russell Carver said told the GrenadaStar in March that Vance turned himself in to authorities last year and was released on $30,000 bond.
Williams declined comment for this story, citing the fact that the events unfolded before he took office in July.
