   Commentary By Arnold Dyre

I survived Christmas and gained the weight to prove it.
Beverly and I spent Christmas and several days preceding it in Ripley, Miss., with Beverly’s sister Rita, Rita’s husband David and their son, our nephew Blake. It was constant eating from the moment we walked in!
Rita knows all about cooking. I know all about eating! We are quite the team.
Since Thanksgiving, I have not thought much about football. It was just too painful. The Mississippi State Bulldogs did a number on Ole Miss and, frankly, I could not take it anymore. But, now, bowl games have started!
Fully expecting the worse, I will be watching on television when the Rebels take the field against Georgia Tech in Nashville’s Music City Bowl. I hope the music will not be a sad song at the end of the game, but I am very fearful.
Christmas, even without snow, was a lot more fun than football.
I do not think Rebel basketball is going to be any better. In my opinion, my team looked pretty bad in a close loss to Mercer the Sunday before Christmas.
Rita, David, Beverly and I were at the game. The popcorn only cost a dollar, but the popcorn was stale. I think they were selling it cheap because it was left over from football season.
Another friend of mine commented that $1 stale popcorn is a whole lot better than $4 stale popcorn. I think there may be a lesson in there somewhere!
Anyway, I am just trying to get past Christmas and football. I will survive Rebel basketball and baseball the best I can.
Somehow, I will weather the storm while filling up as full as I can get on cheap, stale popcorn and hoping for better days ahead somewhere over the rainbow.
By next fall, I will be clamoring for football to start again. I guess I am a glutton for punishment!
   Pass the biscuits, please.
