The Grenada Community Foundation (GCF) is entering its final stretch in trying to reach its goal for the third annual “Grenada Gives 365” Campaign.
According to Deborah Bailey, executive director, funds that are received by Dec. 31, will be distributed in the spring of 2014.
“Grant applications will be available after the first of the year,” Bailey said. “Applications can be picked up at the GCF office on 81 S. Church Street, requested to be mailed by calling 307-2693, or accessing the website at
Theresa Procella, this year’s chairperson for the campaign, said that any of the organizations in Grenada County that have a 501c-3 designation are eligible to apply for a grant.
“In 2011 GCF gave out five grants of $2,200 each, plus several for $500, and in 2012 five grants of $2,000 each were awarded, plus several for $500. Several scholarships were also given for the first time,” Procella said. “By raising the funds and then giving them back in our own county, it becomes a ‘win-win’ situation for all concerned.”
According to Bailey, the economy is improving slightly in Grenada, but it still has not fully recovered.  As a result, giving has decreased, and charitable organizations have felt the decline.
