Patriotism and religious sentiment will commingle this year at the Grenada Christmas parade on Dec. 3.
“A Star Spangled Patriotic Christmas” is the theme, and organizers say it suits the sentiment of the Lake City and its citizens.
“American citizens rally around public events each year,” said Grenada Area Chamber of Commerce Director Glenn Smith. “I’m a big Boston Red Sox fan, and after the bombing at the Boston Marathon in April, in which three people were killed and hundreds more injured, I couldn’t help but notice how the city of Boston, which played such and important role in the early days of this county, pulled together and celebrated the best of what America has to offer.”
Chamber administrative assistant Virginia Fulton said that religious communities should feel free to express their convictions.
“We want to give churches the option to express their beliefs, and to honor Christmas, so long as they’re respectful of others,” said Fulton.
