It’s that time of year again, when children who might not otherwise have presents at Christmas benefit from the generosity of anonymous, local elves.
Volunteers are taking applications for the St. Nicholas Treasure Chest.
Grenada County parents may sign up children ages 3-11 at the Elizabeth Jones Library, Nov. 19-22, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Organizers say the need this year is as robust as ever.
“We served about 1,000 children and families in Grenada County last year, and we’re eager to help share the joy and blessings of the Christmas season again this year,” said the Rev. Elizabeth Wheatley-Jones, rector of All Saints Episcopal Church,  where the ministry started in the early 1980s.
Parents should bring proof of Grenada County residence and names and birthdays of their children. Those who miss the sign up at the library may call (662) 229-8082. The deadline is November 29.
Those wishing to donate toys to the Treasure Chest may drop them off at Ashley Furniture Home Store on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Financial contributions may be sent to All Saints Episcopal Church, PO Box 345, Grenada, Mississippi, 38902.
“We’re very fortunate to be able to gather the hands and hearts of our neighbors to help spread the joy of Christmas,” said Wheatley-Jones.
