One horse was killed and another had to be chased down, tranquilized and taken to an animal rescue after an encounter with a pickup last week.
According to Grenada Police Chief Ben Williams, William Booker, 51, of Grenada, was traveling westbound on Lakeview Dr., shortly before 9 p.m., when his Chevy S-10 struck a sorrel that was standing in the road.
Booker, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured, Williams said, but the horse was fatally injured.
A second horse, a gray, fled into a nearby yard.
“Our first priorities were to attend to any human injuries and to make sure the second horse was safely off the road and that nobody else would hit a horse that night,” said Williams.
