Camp McCain’s economic impact on Grenada County is equal to that of some of the area’s largest employers, according to the state’s top National Guard officer.
Maj. Gen. Augustus L. Collins delivered his remarks to a crowd of some 130 at Camp McCain Tuesday during the Grenada Economic Development District’s Fourth Annual Meeting.
The meeting brought together business leaders to celebrate the economic achievements of the past year.
According to Collins, Camp McCain employs about 140 and generates an annual payroll of $5 million. The ripple effect of the base’s presence is even more sizeable, Collins said.
“In the past year alone, the base spent some $16 million on improvements, and much of that money was spent in the surrounding region, such as with local contractors,” said Collins.
