Maj. Gen. Collins

Staff Writer

The Grenada Economic Development District will celebrate the contributions of Camp McCain to the local economy tonight at a banquet that will feature the top commander in the Army National Guard.
Major Gen. Augustus L. Collins, Adjutant General of Mississippi, will talk about the important presence of Camp McCain and other bases like it throughout the Magnolia State.
Collins will speak at the EDD’s Fourth Annual District Meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. on the campus of Camp McCain.
“Camp McCain is not only a military presence in Grenada County but an economic driver,” said Economic Development District Executive Director Pablo Diaz. “The camp has regional importance, as it employs people from surrounding counties.”
According to Diaz, 149 people work full-time at Camp McCain, and the base brings a $5 million impact to the county. That’ not counting the fuel purchased for vehicles, food rations and other incidentals.
