Dorothy Johns Clark
   Funeral services for Dorothy Johns Clark, 85, of Water Valley, were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
   Mrs. Clark died Oct. 7, 2013, at the Quince Rehab and Nursing Center in Memphis.
   She was born on Nov. 22, 1927, in Memphis, to Dudley Frances and Ethel Phillips Johns.  
   Mrs. Clark was a homemaker, and she and her husband, William, were avid square dancers for many years. In 1987, she retired with her husband to the Sylva Rena Community in Water Valley, where she enjoyed cooking, canning, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She attended Sylva Rena Baptist Church.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Cynthia Stacey; and a great-grandchild, Preston Vegors.
   Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband of 66 years, William G. Clark of Water Valley; a daughter, Brenda Clark Payne of Germantown, Tenn.; a son, Albert Michael Clark of Byhalia; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Artie J. Ellett
   Artie J. Ellett, a resident of Baton Rouge, La., and a former resident of Greenwood, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at the age of 97 after a short illness. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Greenwood.
   Artie is survived by her daughter, Beverly E. Tipton of Baton Rouge; a sister, Carlene Poyner of Southaven; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.  
   She is preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Ellett; a daughter, Virginia Ellett Holmes; and parents, Fitzhugh L. Jones and Minnie McFerron Jones.
   A graveside service officiated by the Rev. Dr. Julius R. Tipton will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 1 p.m., in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery in Paynes, Miss., (near Charleston).  
   Memorial contributions can be made in Artie’s name to Calvary Baptist Church, 4644 Billy Stone Rd., Greenwood, MS 38930.

William Hudson
   A graveside service for William “Bill” Hudson, 81, of the Sylva Rena Community in Yalobusha County, was held at noon Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the Sylva Rena Cemetery.
   Mr. Hudson died Oct. 5, 2013, at his home.
   He was born on Nov. 12, 1931, to the late James Clifton and Ruby Gibson Hudson.
   Mr. Hudson was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served in the occupation forces in Okinawa. Prior to his retirement he owned and operated B&L Repair, later known as Tri-Lakes Refrigeration in Water Valley. He was passionate about sports and was an avid Celtics, Cardinals and Ole Miss fan, and from 1967 to 1997, he was the announcer for the Water Valley High School football games. Mr. Hudson enjoyed working with wood and making furniture and was a member of Sylva Rena Baptist Church.
   In addition to his parents, preceding Mr. Hudson in death are his wife of 33 years, Betsy “Bet” Lakey Hudson and his brother, James Hudson.
   Surviving Mr. Hudson are his daughter, Kim Hudson of Ocala, Fla.; a son, Lynn Hudson of Moweaqua, Ill.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Carleen McBride Johnson
   Funeral services for Carleen “Car” McBride Johnson, 87, of Grenada, formerly of Chicago, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Grenada. Burial will follow in Haven Rest Cemetery.
   Visitation is Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Clark-Williams Funeral Home.
   Mrs. Johnson died Oct. 4, 2013, at her home.
   She was born on Aug. 28, 1926, to George and Jimmie Hanks McBride.
   Mrs. Johnson was as a retired U.S. Postal security officer, and she was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
   In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jean McBride; and two brothers, Lloyd George McBride and Jimmy McBride.
   Mrs. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Bonnette Noel of Grenada; and a sister, Frankie M. Williams of Grenada.

Jerry Edward McKelroy
   Funeral services for Jerry Edward McKelroy, 71, of Tillatoba, were at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at National Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Smith Cemetery in the Rosebloom Community.
   Visitation was Wednesday, Oct. 9, from 5 to 7 p.m. at National Funeral Home.
   Jerry died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at his home in Tillatoba.
   He was born on May 17, 1942, and was the son of the late Thomas Edgar McKelroy and Connie Elizabeth Lantrip McKelroy of Bruce. He is also preceded in death by a son, Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne McKelroy.
   Jerry was a retired machinist for Heatcraft. He was a member of the Bruce Methodist Church and also served in the National Guard for eight years.
   Jerry is survived by his wife, Rachael Ingram McKelroy of Tillatoba; one daughter, Christy Lambert of Scobey; one son, Tim McKelroy of Grenada; a brother, Leroy “Pete” McKelroy of Coldwater; five grandchildren, Blair, Kaylee, and Lainee McKelroy and Dana and Koty Lambert; and a great-grandchild, Kira Starr Williams.

Marilyn Mitchell
   Funeral services for Marilyn “Pat” Mitchell, 76, of Enid, were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, in Wells Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.
   Mrs. Mitchell died Oct. 7, 2013, at Sardis Nursing Home.
   She was born on June 18, 1937, in Burr Oak, Kan., and was the daughter of the late Charles Theron and Thelma Mae Benson Lackey.
   Mrs. Mitchell worked as her husband’s secretary and bookkeeper in their land surveying business. She also worked as a dental assistant for Dr. William Anderson in Charleston. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Enid.
   In addition to her parents, preceding Mrs. Mitchell in death are her husband, Walter Edward Mitchell and one grandson, Jacob Lane.
   Surviving Mrs. Mitchell are two daughters, Virginia Parker of Courtland and Melissa Mitchell of Enid; three sisters, Jackie Jackson and Dottie Belvin of Las Vegas, Nev., Karenita Espinoza of Denver, Colo.; brother, Larry Lackey of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Fannie Ethel Mohead
   Funeral services for Fannie Ethel Mohead, 78, of Carrollton, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Greater Faith M.B. Church. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery.
   Visitation is Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Clark-Williams Funeral Home.
   Mrs. Mohead died Oct. 8, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis of natural causes.
   She was born on April 28, 1935.
   Mrs. Mohead is survived by two daughters, Eloise Mohead and Jessie Mohead, both of Memphis; a son, James Carnell Mohead of Memphis; a sister, Nettie Mae Seals of Memphis; and a brother, Willie James Richardson of Biloxi.

Mary Lou Mixon Roane
   Funeral services for Mary Lou Mixon Roane, 97, of Grenada, are at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at the National Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Wyatts Chapel Cemetery in Water Valley.
   Visitation is Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. at National Funeral Home in Grenada.
   Ms. Roane died Oct. 10, 2013, at Providence Nursing Home.
   She was born on Oct. 4, 1916, and was the daughter of the late Elmer Harris Mixon and Mollie Augusta Osborn Mixon of Water Valley. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, L.E. Birdsong and Chapman Roane, along with seven siblings.
   She was employed by Pennaco Hosiery Mill for 33 years. She was a graduate of O’Tuckalofa High School. Mary Lou was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Although she had no children of her own, she loved the little ones. She worked in the nursery at the church as long as she was able.
   She had three particular natural talents. They were interior decorating, organizing and making things look pretty. She also enjoyed fashion designing. As a matter of fact, she designed and made some of her own clothes. Mary Lou loved to help make life better for others.
She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews as well as many friends.
   Memorials may be made to the building fund at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Gillespie Y. Shaw
   Funeral services for Gillespie Y. “Bubba” Shaw, 54, of Coffeeville, were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at First Baptist Church in Coffeeville. Burial followed in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.
   Mr. Shaw died Oct. 6, 2013, at his residence.
   He was born on Dec. 28, 1958, in Grenada, to Billie Landreth Shaw of Coffeeville and the late Gillespie Shaw Sr.
   Mr. Shaw worked as a lineman assistant for TVA.
   In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Rene Tharpe Shaw of Coffeeville; a sister, Janice Curran of Louisville, Miss.; four sons, Christopher Wade Shaw of Russellville, Ark., Adam Young Shaw, William Hunter Shaw and Stuart Bradford Shaw, all of Coffeeville; and five grandchildren.

Kase Hebron Swinkowski
   A graveside service for Kase Hebron Swinkowski, infant son of Jennifer Swinkowski and Chad McDuff of Water Valley, was held Saturday, Oct. 5, in Sylva Rena Baptist Church Cemetery.
   Kase died Sept. 30, 2013, at The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
   He was born on Sept. 30, 2013, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
   Kase was preceded in death by his uncle, Kyle York.
   In addition to his parents, Kase is survived by his sister, Jaclyn Swinkowski of Water Valley; three brothers, John Travis Swinkowski and Jacob Swinkowski of Water Valley and Ethan McDuff of Philadelphia, Miss.; his grandparents, Travis and Becky York of Water Valley and Joy Baker of Duck Hill; two uncles, Ken McDuff (and family) of Beaumont, Texas and Brian York of Water Valley.
