Kirk Academy running back Dalton Turner gets good yardage during last week’s 13-10 loss against Bayou. The Raiders lost a 28-20 decision to unbeaten DeSoto School this past weekend. Turner had 86 yards rushing and a touchdown.

   Kirk Academy football Coach John McCrory stressed to his team last week regarding maximum effort against teams that most thought they could not beat.
   Once such was the Desoto School Thunderbirds. The Raiders made the trek to West Helena, Ark., to face the unbeaten Class A squad.
   Kirk led the contest 14-7 after the opening half of play. Desoto scored three unanswered touchdowns in the second half and Kirk added a late score, losing a 28-20 decision.
   With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 1-6 overall. Desoto now is 7-0.
  “I thought our guys played hard the entire night,” McCrory said. “We just ran out of gas in the second half. The guys played well enough to win. It’s frustrating.
