Grenada County sheriff’s deputies apprehended a suspect who authorities said fled from police Wednesday in a stolen car.
According to Deputy Administrative and Personnel Officer Eric Williamson, a man he identified as Lucas Jesse Carson, 21, of Stillwater, Ala., was arrested shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Carson apparently stole a car in Memphis, then drove through Grenada at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. After crashing in Gore Springs, he fled on foot, then reportedly stole two other vehicles, authorities said.
Williamson said that deputies received a call that man fitting Carson’s description was walking just west of the intersection of Highway 8 and Gore Springs Road, in the vicinity of the old cotton gin.
“When we went out there, he was hiding in the grass, and when he saw us he ran into the woods,” said Williamson.
Apparently Carson tried to solicit help from several area residents, Williamson said, but thanks to social media and word of mouth folks were on the lookout.
