The Grenada School Board on Tuesday welcomed a new employee to the administrative staff and voted unanimously to restructure pay for substitute teachers.
Rodney Murphy joined the staff this month as the new business manager. Murphy will work alongside outgoing manager Bo Surrell until Surrell’s retirement in December.
“I appreciate this opportunity to be a part of the Grenada School District, and I will strive to meet the level of professionalism and expertise established by Bo,” said Murphy. “Safeguarding assets, ensuring compliance with applicable state laws, producing realistic and reliable budgets and providing financial information to make educated financial decisions are all responsibilities of the business manager.”
Murphy, who grew up in Charleston, has two children in the Grenada School District, a son that’s a junior and a daughter that’s a seventh-grader.
Murphy is a CPA and most recently worked for the State Auditor’s Office.
The board also unanimously backed Teresa Morris as a new hire. Morris will come onboard as the new book keeper for the school district. She comes to Grenada after serving as the business manager for the East Tallahatchie School District since 2004.
