The Grenada County Board of Supervisors met Thursday to review paperwork pertaining to a temporary management agreement and the lease of Grenada Lake Medical Center to the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
According to District Two Supervisor and Board President Chad Bridges, the board was set to meet at 3 p.m. with a representative from the Butler Snow Law Firm and County Attorney Jay Gore III to go over details.
Butler Snow has assisted the board in negotiations with UMMC.
“I feel good about where things are, and we’re still shooting for the Sept. 1 hand-over,” said Bridges.
College Board OK
The state college board, officially known as the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning, approved the lease earlier this month, an important step in what Gore said has at times been an arduous process.
“We’re still working out the fine details, and some language needs to be tweaked, but we’re getting closer,” Gore said earlier this month. “I feel much better about the deal now.”
According to Gore, under the terms of the proposed agreement, GLMC would pay UMMC $26,000 per month to run the hospital until the larger lease takes effect in January 2014.
