Grenadians bid farewell to Interim Police Chief Russell Carver Friday with food, fellowship and even a few laughs.
“I want to say ‘thank you’ for doing a thankless job,” said Pastor Alex Turner, speaking to Carver, who sat a on a stage before a crowd of some 400 friends, family and fellow officers at Taylor Hall. “This man (Carver) is a good man. A friend and a big brother to me,” said Turner. He’s one of the most positive individuals I’ve ever met in my life. A true servant of humanity.”
Elder Willie Parker, a family friend, quoted Matt. 25: 21 in summing up Carver’s 30-year career with the Grenada Police Department.
“Well done, my good and faithful servant,” said Parker, quoting Jesus’s words in a parable. “You have been faithful with a few things, so I will put you in charge of many things.”
Chief Det. George Douglas served alongside Carver for 26 years, and said he admired the tenacity and compassion of his commanding officer.
“Chief Carver has been a fine example of a leader and a man integrity throughout his whole career,” said Douglas, who assumed Carver’s former role after Carver was promoted to interim chief one year ago.
