The Mississippi Department of Transportation dug up a section of Jamison Drive recently because of drainage issues, but there are plans to improve the infrastructure.
Jamison Drive is an approximately 1/4 mile stretch of road that runs in between Western Sizzlin’ restaurant and the Exxon Sprint Mart, just off Highway 8 West. It then climbs a hill to the south where it loops by the Hampton Inn and the Baymont Inn.
According to MDOT District Engineer Mitch Turner, perhaps because of earth settling, a pipe that ran under the road became stopped up. Turner said the problem section of the pipe was an older section, to which MDOT had years ago connected a much newer 72-inch concrete pipe that stretches west for about 1,200 feet in front of Walmart.
“The nature of that drainage system, which extends west by Taco Bell toward the interstate, is pretty much like a pond, and once it stopped up there was no way for the water to get out,” said Turner.
