Carter Reed Brown
   Carter Reed Brown, infant, died May 3, 2013, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
   He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Kimberly Brown of Cascilla.
   Carter is survived by parents, Colton Brown and Heather Sumner of Grenada; “Noni” Cyrena Cook and “Papaw” Josh Cook of Duck Hill; grandfather, Pate Brown III of Cascilla; aunt, Keslie Hester of Grenada; and uncles, Dustin Brown and Dylan Brown, of Cascilla.
   National Funeral Home is in charge.

Paul D. Gard Jr.

   Dr. Paul D. Gard Jr. died May 6, 2013, at Grenada Lake Medical Center. He was a youthful 93 years of age, a devoted husband to Sue Gard, and an avid supported to Hons, his faithful canine companion.
   Paul was a physician/pathologist who graduated from The University of Louisville Medical School in 1943 and from The University of Kentucky Pathology Residency program in 1968. He was an accomplished artist, painting, ceramics and sculpture. He often said as art was his his first love and medicine as a means to support his five children, Peter, Michael, Paul, Stephen, and Elizabeth.
   He resided most of his life in Bogalusa, La., and upon the death of his wife, Ann, moved to Grenada, where he met the love of his life, Sue Callaway. They both enjoyed a beautiful full marriage for almost 10 years, when his soul was requested by another physician.
   In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and his stepson, Will White.
   He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Gard III.
   A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
   Donations may be made to the Grenada Lions Club or the Bogalusa Lions Club.

Guy E. Smart
   Guy E. Smart, 85 of Grenada, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Grenada Lake Medical Center.
   He was born on Aug. 4, 1927, in Memphis, Tenn., to Guy P. and Velma Boyd Smart. He was retired from Illinois Central Railroad after 34 years of service. He was a World War II Veteran for the U.S. Navy.
   He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Harbin Smart of Nesbit; one son, Randy Smart and his wife, Marie of Nesbit; and two grandsons, Caleb and Josh Smart of Nesbit; one brother, Loyd Smart and his wife, Earline of Grenada; two sisters, Jean Moss of Grenada and Grace Womack and her husband, Jim of Lake Cormorant.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Velma Smart.
   Visitation was Tuesday, May 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home, with services following at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Melton officiating.  
   In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be sent to Hardy Baptist Church 1571 Hardy Rd. Grenada, MS 38901.
   Garner-Harper Funeral Home was in charge.

Joe Frank Walker
   Funeral services for Joe Frank Walker Jr., 71, of Grenada, are at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada. Burial will follow in Wayside Cemetery at Scobey.
   Visitation is Friday, May 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at National Funeral Home.
   Joe was born in Calhoun City, Miss., on Jan. 11, 1942, to Joe and Doris Walker.  
   He went to be with the Lord on May 8, 2013, at his home in Grenada.
   He is survived by his wife, Nancy Walker of Grenada; children, Tomzie Mitchiner and her husband, John of Dickinson, Texas, Joey Walker and his wife, Shannon of Oxford, Nancy Ann Carpenter and her husband, Greg of Cascilla, and Kim Boyd and his wife, Tonya of Southaven; six grandchildren, Nikki House and her husband, Jerry, Richard Fowler, Anna and Samantha Walker, Jeremy Wayne Carpenter and Tyler Boyd; and two great-grandchildren, Cameron Blair and Kaden Small.
   He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Doris Walker, and his daughter, Patricia Gail Walker.
   National Funeral Home is in charge.
