Ten-year-old Trent Hubbard Jr., was intent on putting just the right trim around his patch on the quilt.
“This is a shirt I got when I was eight years old,” said Hubbard, beaming. “I caught 11 fish.”
He’d taken his T-shirt and made a square for the friendship quilt, a mosaic of memories that he and other children were fashioning at New Life Christian Fellowship.
Sierra Swims, 9, used a piece of cloth proudly displaying the American flag.
“This is a good county,” said Swims, as she glued tassels to her patriotic square.
Around the room, some 20 children, ranging in ages from 4-15, worked on arts and crafts. They jostled each other, smiling, as they glued on construction paper rainbows and bright, cut-out rays of sun.
